Dev log 3

I want to preface that all of my sprites for this devlog were made in dotpict not aseprite or piskel.
Blue flame: Since the room is magical and contains a giant cauldron I wanted to incorporate flames into my room. So I decided to make a flame character. Fire is great for frame to frame animation because of its naturally fluid nature and the constant flicker that it has. I believed that having a normal flame would be boring so I made a face inside of it. (I took some inspiration from “Calcifer” from howls moving castle) I attempted to shrink and squish my character but I found it very difficult. It’s noticeably slow which I believe is due to having too many frames. I seem to have some issues with this. It doesn’t help that I don’t really work with non-human characters so that made is worse.
Broom: The player is supposed to be a witch so I had to include a flying broom. I wanted it to be a sentient broom that bounces a saddle on its back like a horse. I wanted to exaggerate this motion but just like my flame character the animation is too slow but I think that instead of having too many frames this animation suffered from me not exaggerating enough. Plus I think that it needs some sort of secondary action instead of just the bounce of the saddle and swing of the tail end of the broom. There could have been some movement of the brush.
Despite my criticisms and difficulties I like both of my animations but I need to break out of my old ways of animating so that I can improve.
